Precious Brady-Davis was appointed to the MWRD by Governor JB Pritzker in July 2023 and elected as Commissioner in 2024. She holds a historic distinction as the first Black openly trans woman appointed and elected to public office in Cook County history, and the first to serve on a water reclamation district in the United States.

She advocates for protecting Lake Michigan’s water supply and advancing green infrastructure to enhance community resilience and prevent flooding across Cook County.

    Chief Strategy Officer

    Center on Halsted

    Oversees organization-wide strategy, program alignment, and data-informed initiatives at one of the Midwest's largest LGBTQ+ community centers, supporting queer youth, older adults, and community-wide impact. Focuses on translating mission into measurable outcomes and ensuring programs scale with equity and integrity.

    Led environmental campaigns focused on renewable energy, corporate accountability, and climate action.

    Implemented campus-wide diversity initiatives and national recruitment strategies.

    Youth Outreach Coordinator

    Launched a $1.6 million CDC grant providing HIV prevention, transgender advocacy, and LGBT leadership services to over 3,000 youth ages 13–29.

Background & Education

Brady-Davis is a self-described lifelong social justice advocate, communications professional, and environmentalist. She authored the memoir “I Have Always Been Me.” She graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and currently resides in Hyde Park with her husband Myles and their two daughters, Zayn and Zyon. She is a Nebraska native of multiracial background.
